Scroll / EigenBrowser problem with Tau
Wondering if anyone knows what the issue might be. When using the tau, and trying to browse sound fonts or AU/VSTs I can get the browser to display on the monitor by clicking the browse button for that particular setup, but….
Scrolling does not work. Key X/Y does not appear to be bound to any scrolling or selecting behavior.
Using windows btw.
Tried on two diff machines, and nada.
Using factory setups.
Any ideas?
I think this is a known problem. See the final few posts in this thread: http://www.eigenlabs.com/forum/threads/id/1369/

Thanks Duncan. Drat.
Yeah, same thing on browsing ANY sampler or drum rig now that I try it. Didn’t realize.
Odd that they think it related to python on a system. On my win laptop, there is no python installed and the problem is there too.
Makes me wonder if I could get away with just bundling an older version of python with the app myself and work around it that way. Got EigenD building under VS, so I may be able to experiment and let others know if I find a fix.
Thanks for the heads up.

Oh, sadly too, that post is 3 years old, so I guess this hasn’t been working for some time now.

Yep. There’s a python2.5 installation as part of EigenD.

Odd that the problem should still persist on a machine without any Python interpreter installed on it. Must be an issue with the bundled python interpreter not liking something.

Sorry, for some reason I thought you were running on windows… (and this is only an issue on OSX afaik), but now see your talking about AUs.
are you running both Windows and OSX?
if so try on windows.

Fyi, running linux and windows. Have a mac too, but half my audio stuff isn’t functional on El Capitan so it’s shelved for now.
I’m pretty much platform agnostic. Old unix guy. 🙂

Oh, I should mention that this is also a problem on windows. Scroll control does not work for browsing anything on windows either. Works fine for volume and pan and so on, just not inside eigenbrowser.

thats odd/interesting…
have you read the post on eigenlabs where I original troubleshooted the issue?
is it the same on windows?
on the Mac, and the issue I was aware of… the scrolling is ‘working’, its just that the UI is not updating. this was proven, because if you then updated the UI by covering it up, and uncovering it… you can see the selection has changed.
its this the same on windows ? and on your mac is it doing this?
I ask about the later, because its possible something else has broken… and Id not noticed, as Im not using eigencommander or eigenbrowser due to the known issue.
also have you even seen it working? to be honest, even when it was working on the mac, i found it pretty ‘quirky’… easy to mistake it for not working, as a new user, but actually it was about how you used the keys.
btw: the newer ‘experimental’ runtime (1.0.1) is using python 2.7 (again bundled) … only on mac currently I think
EDIT: ok, just re-tested this on the mac, its still ‘only’ a display issue…. and I’ve just had an idea 😉

No. Have never seen it working at all except on demo videos. Hiding and showing the window does not change anything either. I have to use keyboard and mouse to scroll, or change soundfonts, fx and so on.
All the videos I have seen were for an alpha or pico. This is why I thought perhaps this was a tau issue or I was choosing the wrong key or something. Pressing the button does launch the browser but after that nothing.
FYI there are no python installations on the windows boxes I’ve tried so I’m not entirely convinced its a python version conflict in so much as an actual bug somewhere.

hmm, unless its broken in the tau setups, then wont be a tau issue as such….
Ferdinand Strixner do you know if the scroll keys work for browsing in the tau setups?
it wont be a python conflict… eigenD ships with its own, that mostly whats included in the runtime package.
anyway, ‘good news’ is , Ive hacked a fix for the EigenBrowser display issue, which can tide over till we move to a newer version of wxPython.
