Cheers, very pleased – the simplicity of the black suits my tastes very well.
So any tips and suggestions for getting started?
In particularly holding (when sitting down), my left hand finds it quite a stretch, its a bit easier when the alpha is closer to me, but then the breath pipe is in the wrong position.
Im going to take a look at some videos, and see if there is a ‘norm’ … and of course just keep playing till it works for me :o)

Factory Split 1, Piano, Scales. Maybe put a little reverb on the piano for ambiance.
You’ll probably find that playing position with/without breath pipe will be different. I’d focus first on without.
I like to rest my right thumb along the top edge of the side board and my left thumb under the back. As I move across the keyboard I try to keep consistent playing position. There is some variation along the way.
It will take a couple weeks to get a good feel. But you’ll be amazed quickly at what you can do.

Here are the four playing positions that I still use: http://www.eigenzone.org/2010/06/21/eigenharp-alpha-review-after-three-months

Most frequent playing position is sitting down like a classical guitar musician. I need both feet available for foot pedals/ foot controller, so there is “the Black Hole” – http://www.dycem.com for Cellists that holds the spike in position in most slippery surfaces (the rubber tip does come off for true spike) .
You can use the breath pipe and even, closing your legs play Cello with the strip.
I force myself to play more often standing up…

Thanks, will try a few variations.

The real question is when are you buying PianoTeq (if you do not already have it 😉
I’d align with Randy’s suggestion adding that it makes sense to add the root note lights and practice in chromatic (just a preference). Actually, I wish there were root/3rd/5th lights in the new agent (hint to the technically minded).
It will be interesting to hear how you get on.

😉 oh Pianoteq… Mike Milton
I’m in line for some light/tonics- 5th’s modifications update!!! really useful (I was mad playing Bach with no lights in the beginning!!)

Yes for tonic lights. There’s scripts available in the Factory scripts folder (use EigenBrowser) for adding lights to all Factory setups.
Some scales don’t have 5ths. 😉

Geert Bevin Nice review of possible positions. I’m not sure I saw this post. But, I will point out that you’ve made no allowance for positioning around a big belly. (No, I won’t post a video on this.) 😉

yeah, Geert Bevin it is a great article. didnt know about the mouth piece being more side entry, thats helps alot :o)
also Im trying with the strap as this seems to enforce a position.
that and the fact that im now stuck in the harness and cant work out how to get it off again ;o)
will do with the tonic lights – good idea!
Mike Milton pianoteq definitely on the cards , perhaps will reward myself once I start getting the hang of this beast.

oops meant to ask, should i initially aim for left at top half and right bottom…. or really attempt to get used to both hands over entire surface?
(the later seems more difficult!)

I’m an upper-half kinda guy for musical playing. Just pull the little metal knob of the harness outwards to release it and take it off 🙂

Most of the time when I practice scales and patterns I do mirroring with both hands. Left on a lower octave, right on an upper, or maybe a 4th or 5th for fun.
For me, this has helped strengthen my left hand.

started getting a bit more comfortable … and mange to get out of the harness (thanks Geert!) .
I like the lights when you touch keys, very useful to see when you accidentally brushing unintentional keys.
Its funny, its like when I first got the pico, a bit disoriented and uncoordinated…. e.g. not knowing if im on the 4 or 5 column.
tonight a bit more playing, then unfortunately away for 4 days, but then can get focused !

Great!… Mark Harris I remember clearly I was in total panic going from Pico to Alpha; time will ease the transition.
